Keeping fit in Hintonburg

Hintonburg residents enjoy a plethora of fitness and recreation activities at their doorstep. From organized sports in local parks and community facilities to commercial gyms and dojos, plentiful running and biking trails, there’s never an excuse not to be active in our community.
  • The Hintonburg Community Centre (1064 Wellington, 613-798-8874) offers a myriad of fitness programs including ball hockey and fitness classes.
  • Just adjacent to our eastern boundary is the Plant Recreation Centre, a beautifully restored heritage landmark, now one of the city’s most modern fitness and pool facilities.Ottawa River pathway
  • Runners and walkers will enjoy easy access to short and long routes through the Experimental Farm and the Ottawa River pathway system.
  • Several world-class martial arts and fitness studios in Hintonburg offer personalized programs to residents from across the city.
  • Some say that Ottawa’s best clay tennis courts are at the Elmdale Tennis Club on Byron Avenue, corner Holland. The club also features an extensive social and sporting calendar.
  • The Ottawa River Parkway, just north of Hintonburg, is closed to traffic on most Sundays in the summer for great family cycling and in-line skating and is minutes from your front door.
  • Hintonburg residents are a short walk away from Dows Lake, part of the Rideau Canal. Besides its beautiful walking, cycling and jogging paths, Dows Lake offers sailing, canoeing and rowing in the summer and, of course, world-famous skating in the winter.
  • It's winter all year long for hockey enthusiasts at the Tom Brown Arena, 141 Bayview at Scott on our eastern perimeter (613-798-8885 or 613-798-8945).
  • We’re just steps away from the Trans-Canada Trail of which the famous Rideau Trail is a key component. An 18,000 km trek may not be on your training schedule this weekend but virtually uninterrupted runs of 32 km and longer, winding past the National Capital’s most famous landmarks, are within a few minutes’ jog.
  • Serious trail bikers will enjoy the extensive system located just across the Ottawa river in beautiful Gatineau Park and can leave the car at home.
