Look out! Here comes ArtsPark.

The Hintonburg Community Association is pleased to announce the fourth annual ArtsPark -- a one-day festival of art, music, performance and heritage in Hintonburg’s QUAD arts district -- on Sunday 13 May 2007 from 10am to 4pm.

Every year, people tell us they look forward to ArtsPark and we know why... it's low-key... it's very urban... it's free... and it's fun for everyone in the family.

ArtsPark is a great excuse to explore our "emerging", "hot", "cool" neighbourhood. This year's event, held outdoors in the park next to the Parkdale Market (Parkdale Avenue at Armstrong Street) will feature about 100 artists, musicians and performers. The adjacent block of Armstrong Street will be closed to traffic... and it will be warm and sunny for Mothers' Day and the official opening of the Market.

The complete program, which is subject to change, is available elsewhere on this site but here are some highlights....
  • Displays from feature artist Dalal Chuaqui along with 20+ artists and photographers (all day, rain or shine in the Big Tent)
  • Live "urban art" (11am-3pm, presented by Parkdale Gallery and ADD Electronics)
  • Salamander Theatre for Young Audiences (5 to 12 years old), A World of Stories (11am, weather dependent)
  • Children's art activities (noon to 3pm)
  • Music from Carleton Bovell (noon), the Ottawa Community Concert Band (1pm), Lucky Ron and the McGillicuddy Sisters (2pm), electronic musician Simon Ears (3pm)
  • Heritage Walking Tours (11am, 2pm)
  • Jewellery and Designer Showcase (all day)
  • A Taste of Hintonburg (munchies from 11am-2pm, weather dependent)
ArtsPark is an annual family-fun event organized by the Hintonburg Community Association to celebrate culture in Hintonburg and to promote the QUAD arts district. At least 2000 spectators are expected and admission to this fund-raising event is free thanks to the Hintonburg and Ottawa businesses that support ArtsPark every year.

The Hintonburg Community Association is a not-for-profit, volunteer-led group of local citizens who are eager to make a difference in our community. Hintonburg's QUAD arts district -- the acronym stands for Quartier des artistes / Arts District -- blends cultural expression, community spirit and heritage character to create a special neighbourhood that embraces all arts disciplines.

  • enRoute magazine has named Hintonburg one of its top ten "emerging" neighbourhoods in Canada. Ottawa Magazine says Hintonburg is "hot" and credits the QUAD as the reason residents think we're "cool". (Both April 2007.)

How to get to ArtsPark
ArtsPark takes place in Parkdale Park, adjacent to the City's Parkdale Market, on Armstrong Street near the intersection of Parkdale Avenue and Wellington Street, Ottawa. If you're driving, exit the Queensway (417) at Parkdale and go north; from the Ottawa River Parkway, exit at Parkdale. There is parking on nearby streets, some space at the Market itself and lots at Holland Cross and Tunney's Pasture. Buses 2, 6, 16 and 18 serve the area regularly and the Bayview O-Train stop isn't far away.
