ArtsPark
A signature event in the QUAD arts district … a very urban “village fair”. That’s ArtsPark — and people love it! This one-day festival of art, design, music and performance happens every year on Mothers' Day and this May’s event will attract thousands of visitors. The program includes work from dozens of artists and performers, a designer jewellery showcase, exhibits, children's activities and heritage walking tours. An extensive promotional campaign guarantees a good turn-out and high visibility for sponsors.

Hintonburg Centennial 5k / Newswest 1k Kids Run
Zoom PhotoThe fourth annual Hintonburg race is back and poised to grow bigger than ever! We are expecting around 300 runners and walkers for the timed race and nearly 60kids for the 1k fun run — all helped along by 50 volunteers. Your logo and support is seen by thousands of Ottawa residents on the race T-shirt, with inclusion in our Kitchissippi Times advertising (two ¼ page, colour ads — one in May, one in June), our emails to hundreds of Hintonburg Community Association members, in postcards available in local Running Rooms and other Hintonburg, Westboro, West Wellington Village and Kitchissippi businesses and on our promotional website.

Summer Movie Festival
Photo: Jeff LeiperFor the fourth year running, the HCA along with the Hintonburg Community Centre will offer a Summer Movie Festival with 4 double bills in July and August. The first feature, shown indoors, is geared to youngsters age 5 to 12 while the second movie, geared to children 10 to 16, is screened outdoors. Admission is free for all and the festival will attract hundreds of families.

Kringle
Kids in the community shouldn’t have to visit a shopping mall to give their wish-list in person to Santa. Each year, Hintonburg Community Centre staff and the HCA put on the Kringle event with arts and crafts, snacks and free photos with Saint Nick. Your sponsorship will be visible on street posters and the HCA web site in support of this very worthwhile evening — a true community-building partnership.

Here's how to sign up

For more information about sponsorship, events or membership please contact Jeff Leiper at 613.868.2375 or jeff.leiper@gmail.com. We’d like to hear from you by March 20, 2010.

Although we are totally committed to the success of the planned activities of the Hintonburg Community Association outlined in this brochure, events are subject to change or cancellation due to unforeseen events such as truly nasty weather. Donations are non-refundable.

The Hintonburg Community Association (HCA), established in 1991, is a not-for-profit, volunteer-led group that makes a real difference in our community. Representing nearly 400 businesses and residents, we are widely regarded as one of the most active community groups in Ontario. Membership is open to all residents, businesses and property owners for just $5 yearly or $20 for five years. The Annual General Meeting is held in September when the Board of Directors is elected.

The advocacy and communications activities of the HCA and its various committees help make Hintonburg an even better place to live and work. And we have hard evidence of the fruits of our labours: in its April 2007 number, enRoute (Air Canada's in-flight magazine) named Hintonburg one of the top ten emerging neighbourhoods in Canada. The same month, Ottawa Magazine said Hintonburg is "hot" and credits the QUAD arts district as the reason residents think we're "cool".

Then in June 2007, the Financial Times of London noted that the 'Burg is "thriving again... [and] one big factor is its mixed citizenry and perception as a welcoming place.” In October, 2007, Ottawa Citizen writer Patrick Langston commented that "four years ago, Hintonburg, one of Ottawa's oldest communities, decided to reinvent itself as a hip new arts hotspot... The [Hintonburg Community Association's] strategies included rebranding the community as the QUAD... Today, that dream is starting to materialize, and optimism abounds…”
